Why even TOP Business schools have waived off GMAT for admissions?

Though, overall 80% of the USA universities continue GMAT as a mandatory requisite for gaining admissions into MBA full time program, 20% have waived off GMAT from their admissions criterion.

Business Week’s report on Admissions without GMAT

According to Business Week’s top 25 EMBA programs, 12 have waived off the GMAT requirements completely. In fact, few schools which list GMAT in their admissions criterion also consider applications without GMAT on a case to case basis. Even at No. 1 ranked Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management, EMBA applicants aren't required to take the test. But there may be pre requisites such as a refresher course if the student lacks qualitative skills. |

Harvard- the first school to admit students without GMAT |
Harvard was the first major business school to abandon the GMAT in 1985. At the time they argued that the test wasn’t the best predictor of students’ success. 11 years later in ’97 Harvard decided to reinstate its GMAT requirement. |

Stanford Business School announcement to accept GRE scores for full time MBA program |
Now just last year Stanford Business School announced it would accept GRE scores in place of the GMAT for its full-time program. School officials said it would increase diversity and help defray the costs to those that can’t afford to take the test. |
